BOCC to Hold May 26th Regular Session Virtually at 7 p.m. Due to the ongoing social distancing restrictions in response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the Durham Board of County Commissioners will hold its next Regular Session virtually on Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at 7 p.m. During this meeting, there will be a Public Comment Hearing on the County Manager’s Fiscal Year 2020-2021 Recommended Budget. The meeting will be held on Tuesday due to most Durham County Government offices being closed for the Memorial Day holiday on Monday, May 25. Residents wishing to submit citizen comments: please email your comments to the Clerk to the Board at mtoomer@dconc.gov. Comments must be submitted by Saturday, May 23rd. The virtual option aligns with social distancing requirements which ensure the safety of citizens who wish to participate as well as Board members and Durham County Government staff. Citizens who wish to view the BOCC meeting can watch rebroadcasts on the Durham Television Network, which is available on AT&T U-verse channel 99 and Spectrum channel 8, Google Fiber channel 8 and Frontier Communications channel 70. The meeting will also be streamed live on the County’s website and on the County’s YouTube Channel. |

● Funding Opportunities/Unemployment Assistance (for independent contractors and self-employed):
- New Salesforce Care Small Business Grants -- Salesforce is partnering with Ureeka to offer eligible small businesses the opportunity to receive a $10,000 grant to help them through the COVID-19 outbreak. The application period opened today and will close Friday, May 1st at 11:59PM. https://apply.salesforce.ureeka.biz/prog/salesforce_small_business_grants_east
- Duke Durham Fund Phase 1 - $1 Million for Emergency Relief -- Duke is now providing rapid relief grants up to $5,000 to community-based organizations that are supporting basic needs in Durham. To date, we have received more than 100 applications and have granted more than $200,000. We are actively reviewing open applications. Eligible organizations may complete the short application online at any time, and organizations that received funding in April may reapply for additional funding during round two in May and round three in June. Applications for emergency relief for the community are available at community.duke.edu/give.
- New Pandemic Unemployment Assistance -- NC Independent contractors and self-employed workers out of work because of COVID-19 can apply for federal Pandemic Unemployment Assistance beginning Friday, April 24th. Pandemic Unemployment Assistance is a federal program for people who are unable to work as a result of COVID-19 and not eligible for regular state unemployment benefits, such as self-employed workers and independent contractors (1099 employees). The Hope4NC Helpline (1-855-587-3463) connects North Carolinians to additional mental health and resilience supports that help them cope and build resilience during times of crisis. As part of the state’s recent hurricane recovery efforts it served over 4,400 people in the most impacted counties, and now it is being made available to everyone in North Carolina’s 100 counties during the COVID-19 crisis. This initiative is in partnership with all seven of the state’s LME/MCOs and REAL Crisis Intervention Inc. in Greenville. Hope4NC is now available 24 hours per day, seven days a week to speak to a live person.
The Hope4Healers Helpline (919-226-2002) is a new initiative in partnership with the North Carolina Psychological Foundation. It provides mental health and resilience supports for health care professionals, emergency medical specialists, first responders, other staff who work in health care settings and their families throughout the state who are experiencing stress from being on the front lines of the state’s COVID-19 response. Hope4Healers is also available 24 hours per day, seven days a week for people to reach out for support; they will be contacted quickly by a licensed mental health professional for follow-up.

● Durham One Fund Supporting Displaced McDougald Terrace Residents - The Durham One Fund is now accepting donations to support the McDougald Terrance residents impacted by the high carbon monoxide levels and mold conditions reported last week. For those interested in donating, please visit:
● Get Involved, it’s your County! Durham County Government has approximately 43 active advisory boards referred to as Boards and Commissions. Citizens of Durham County may volunteer to participate by applying for a vacancy. Interested citizens should fill out an application and send it to the Clerk to the Board’s Office.
