Project Description
The Durham County Youth Home opened in 1947 and was the first county facility of its kind in the state. The Home serves as a detention facility for the protection of the juvenile and the community, and provides a safe, secure and positive environment for both juveniles and staff pending a court disposition.
A Program and Master Site Plan Study was generated in 2018 by O'Brien/Atkins Associates, and included a building condition assessment, identification of current and future needs, and a site master plan.
The New Youth Home project will include a review of the 2018 study and the design of a new, larger, state of the art facility that can be constructed on the existing site.
